The Horrors make their long-awaited return today with a brand new single ‘Lout’, the title track of a 3 track EP due for release on March 12th via Wolf Tone/Virgin Music Label & Artist Services. The EP tracks ‘Lout’ and ‘Orb’ will also be released on blood red 7″ vinyl, strictly limited to 1500 copies worldwide.
According to lead singer Faris Badwan, “Lout is about the relationship between choice and chance, compulsive risk-taking and pushing your luck. As a band, particularly live, we’ve always had an aggressive side and as we began writing new songs it became clear that we were heading in that direction.”
The industrial-edged new single is the first new music from the band since 2017’s critically acclaimed fifth album ‘V’, and is a notable sonic departure from the band’s recent work;
“There’s something about it which feels like a return to a heavier sound but really it’s a million miles away from anything we’ve done. // Continue to the full article

‘Scars’ is the second single from the upcoming SMITH/KOTZEN debut album by Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen.
Described by Adrian as a song which “starts off with a dreamy intro then comes in heavy”, ‘Scars’ is a hark-back to 70’s bluesy rock which the duo found particularly fun to work on.
As Richie explains, “I remember ‘Scars’ being one of the songs we wrote in the very beginning of the process. There is something moody and mysterious going on in this track that I find quite engaging. This would be a great track for us to stretch out live for some guitar improvisation between the two of us.”
As well as the pair co-writing, co-producing and sharing guitars and vocals, Richie also plays bass and drums on the track. The black & white video was once again shot on both sides of the Atlantic. // Continue to the full article

Sacred Bones Records will release the lost album from Alan Vega, entitled Mutator, on April 23. Vega’s name is synonymous with unfettered creativity, from the late 1950s, through his years playing in Suicide, and all the way up until his death in 2016, Vega was constantly creating. This process naturally led to a wealth of material that didn’t see the light of day immediately when it was recorded, which came to be known as the Vega Vault. Mutator is the first in a series of archival releases from the Vault that will come out on Sacred Bones Records. It was recorded with his longtime collaborator Liz Lamere and discovered in the vault in 2019 by both Lamere and his close friend and confidante Jared Artaud (The Vacant Lots). Soon after they mixed and produced the songs into the visionary album that was lurking within those tapes. // Continue to the full article

New and distinctive, with deft craftsmanship and right on the nose lyrics, and all this wrapped up in a refined and cool soundscape. Artpop; songs flowing from rhythm and dance, to laidback ambiences with beautiful vocals and squishy noises of electro. The singer and composer Sunstroke Rain (anagram of Karin Turesson) who has played earlier with artists such as Tingsek, Ebbot, Annika Norlin, Nina Persson and Robyn now performs her own compositions backed by Olivia Lyne and Lisa Frisk.
The group delivers a sophisticated sound where the sounds are meticulously worked out. The music is performed on three keyboards, three mics with backing tracks, 3 part harmonies and a bottom end filled with swampish heavy and groovy Moog bass.
The sharp lyrics describe and comment on our ever changing contemporary society with humour and pathos. // Continue to the full article
“Apparently coming from a post-hardcore-punk past, Oakland-based band inject boundless energy into reverb-dusted nostalgic 6-string chords weaving sparkling distorted mesmerizing textures through punchy drum beats, gurgling throbbing bassline, and dreamy, falling male vocals …. 90s guitar tinged melancholic bliss.”- White Light/White Heat
With a layered and driving sound held together by soaring effects and even higher volumes, Oakland-based Bad Visuals blends shoegaze atmospherics with punk and post-hardcore influences to craft a style equal parts gritty and melodic.
Previous LP “Petaluma” was recorded with Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Whirr) and released in early 2019, while this spring’s upcoming EP “Ravel” was produced by Sam Pura (Hundredth, The Story So Far) and takes the band’s sound and aesthetic to new heights. // Continue to the full article

Landing four months after their previous offering, 2020’s Take Me Away, the duo say making Five Point 0 was cathartic and reinvigorating. Specifically: the video for “Took Me for Granted,” was shot on location in their home in Toronto.
“‘Took Me for Granted’ is one of our favourite songs on the release, so it seemed fitting we’d put together a video for it as well,” Reid shares. // Continue to the full article

Every successful artist today had a “click” moment at some point. French electronic music producer David Guetta was DJing around the country for a long time before he became a smash hit after playing around with a Farley Jackmaster Funk piece.
Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris was producing his bedroom demos before he decided to move from Scotland to London. His first efforts failed. He returned home and posted his music to his MySpace page. It was only then that an EMI representative liked his work and signed him on.
British artist Sarah Nadal’s “click” moment came when her son introduced her to “a tool that allowed me to create the tracks and turn them around” quickly.
“The tool came complete with royalty free beats, percussions, bass, synths, vox’s and so much more enabling me to compile tracks in a fraction of the time that it would normally take to produce music. // Continue to the full article

They found new ways of working together as they further explored the emotional landscapes they’ve been perfecting for more than a decade, and in taking stock of themselves and the uncertainty of their future, Half a Human helped them arrive at a new thesis statement for the band. // Continue to the full article
